At Eleet Woodworks, we believe that preserving history requires a seamless blend of traditional craftsmanship and uncompromising quality. Recently, we were asked to replace two worn out oak garden gates maintaining the original design. There were complex mortice and tenon joints and one of the gates had curverd braces so it was an interesting and rewarding project to undertake.
It was important to retain the character of the gates as they were located in the garden of an historic property. As with all project of this kind a thorough consultation with the property owner, took place and it was decided that the hanging and latching post could be used as they were solid and would not need to be replaced. The existing ironmongery would be re used after refurbishment.
For the gates we sourced top-grade seasoned oak.with minimal natural flaws, superb grain consistency, and very little waste.
